Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., Report: DAIRY SALE AT WAIHOU.
At Waibou Yards on Saturday, 9th inst., we held a special sale of dairy cows and heifers, but had a very small entry —76 head. Buyers were plentiful and decent sorts close to profit were required. Heifers made from L 5 10s to L 7 10s; cows, L 7 to L 7 15s ; more backward sorts, L 4 10s to L 5 ; a few bulls, 6£ to 8} guineas.
MORRINSVILLE LITE STOCK SALE On October Bth we held our usual monthly stock sale in Morrinsville Yards, and had an entry of 450 sheep and 396 head of cattle. There was a good attendance of buyers and prices showed an improvement on sale of previous month due to grass being more plentiful. Fat woolly wethers, 16s 6d ; shorn wethers, 14s ; fat ewes in wool, lis Id to 13s 3d; fat shorn ewes, lls 6d; small hoggets in wool, 10s 3d ; weaner pigs, 10s 6d to 12s ; fat and forward steers, L 6 to L 6 7s 6d ; fat heifers, Lo 14s to L 5 19s; fat cows, L 4 10s to L 5 2s 6d ; fresh 3-year steers, L 4 17s to L 5 9s ; two-year-old steers, L 3 12s ; eighteen months steers, L2 16s to L2 19s ; yearling steers, L2 2s 6d to L2 6s ; yearling heifers, 34s to 38s ; two year-old empty heifers, L 3 to L 3 10s ; a pen of yearling Holstein cross heifers made L 3 9s ; bulls, to 4f guineas ; dairy heifers at profit, L 5 10s to L 7 ss; more backward sorts, L 4 to L 4 10s*
Thk New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company’s, Limited, weekly report : Horses : On Friday, at the Durham Yards, horses were yarded in larger numbers than usual and competition was good. Heavy draughts sold at from £27 10s to £39 ; medium do., £2O 10s to £3l. A draft of medium unbroken draught colts and fillies from Motiti Island brought from £l9 5s to £33 ; light do., £5 10s to £l6 ; hacks, £8 10s to £l7 ; weeds and ponies, £3 10s to £6. The bay horse ExcaKbur realised 35 guineas.
On Wednesday we held a clearing sale of live and dead stock on account of Mr Thomas Jenkins, Puni, Pukekohe. There was a good attendance and satisfactory prices ruled. Dairy cows made from £3 10s to £7 158 ; empty cows, £2 2s to £3 4s ; horses, £lO to £25 15s.
On Thursday' we held a sale of live and dead stock on account of Mr G. A. Kindburg, Mauku. The attendance was large and high prices ruled. Cows sold at from £5 5s to £lO ; heifers, £4 15s to £7 158 ; horses, £l3 5s to £23.
Cattle : Cattle were yarded in full numbers at the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday. Dairy cows sold at from £4 10s to £8 158 ; empty cows, £2 5s to £3 28 6d ; calves, 17s to £1 18s. There was a full yarding of beef, which sold under keen competition at improved rates. Oxen sold to 22s per 1001 b and cows from 188 to 20s. Steers sold at from £6 10s to £9 17s 6d ; cows, £4 os to £7. The fat cattle were of nice quality, but light-weights. Sheep : Sheep were yarded in average numbers at Newmarket on Tuesday and advanced in prices from 2s to 3s per head. Wethers sold at from 14s 9d to £1 Is 9d ; ewes, 12s 9d to 18s 6d ; shorn wethers, 8s 9d to 16s 3d ; do., ewes, 8s to 14s 3d. Lambs, which were in full supply, sold at advanced rates, from 108 9d to 15s 9d being realised. Pigs : Porkers sold at from 18s 9d to £1 178; weaners, 5s 6d to 14s 9d; baconers, £2 2s to £3 Is.
On Saturday, at Clevedon, there was a good muster of stock, which sold at late rates. Dairy cows sold at from £3 15s to £7 2s 6d ; do., heifers, £3 os to £7 ; empty cows, L2 2s L 3 10s ; calves, 15s to Ll 17s ; yearlings, LI 13s to L2 7s 6d; two to three-year-old steers, L 3 138 to L 5.
At the special dairy sale at Papakura on Monday there was a large muster, which sold at fully late rates. Cows close to profit sold at from L 5 10s to L 8 15s; heifers, do., L 5 to L 8 os; backward cows, L 3 os to L 6 10s ; heifers, do., L2 12s 6d to L 5 os ; bulls, L 4 5s to L 7 2s fid ; yearling bulls, L2 15s to L 5. We submitted average catalogues of hides, skins. and tallow on Tuesday, all lines meeting with good competition at late rates.
Sheepskins : Market brisk. Best butchers’ skins, large to 6s fid, good lines 5s 5d to 5s 9d, medium 4s 6d to 4s lOd, small 3s to 3s 9d.
Tallow : Market firm. Best mixed, to 24s 6d ; good, 21s to 22s fid; inferior, 17s to 18s 6d ; rough fat, Ijd to lgd. Bones, L 4 17s 6d. Cowtails, Is 8d per dozen. Horsehair, Is 3d to Is 4d per lb. Wheat: Market firm at 4s 8d ex store.
Oats: Firm at 2s 3d B grade ex store.
Maize : Stocks are light and the market is firm at last week's rates.
Bran and Pollard : Selling freely at 48 3d and 5s 3d.
Barley finds ready sale at 2s 8d ex store.
Potatoes : In good demand at late rates.
Butter : Selling freely. Choice tor, lOd ; first giade, 9M ; second grade, Bjd to 9d. Cheese : Sales at Gd. Eggs : Eggs are worth lOd per dozen. Fungus is worth fid per lb.
