Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company.

The annual meeting of the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company was held in the Company’s office on Wednesday afternoon.

In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman (Mr Barugh) stated : That the Company had again had a very successful year, having put through 6,050 more sheep and 66,000 more lambs than last year. He regretted that owing to the prohibition of the British Government to allow boned beef to be landed, and that now these cattle could not be exported, as the Freezing Companies paid £7,000 in inspection fees, he would like to see meat inspectors appointed by the British Government at the Freezing Works, so that the meat could be inspected at the Works by them, and if found wholesome, that the certificate should then allow of its being used in England without auy further inspection. During the year the company had successfully stored a great number of eggs and a large quantity of fruit, and if the right kind of fruit was sent it paid the sender very well. He regretted to have to state that the frozen lambs had sold very badly in England, and feared that the exporters would lose heavily by them. During the coming year the Company intend to enlarge the sheep slaughtering sheds and to build a new fellmongery. Mr Gane seconded the adoption of the report and balance-sheet which was carried.

In reply to suggestions the Chairman stated that the Company would arrange for dividends to be paid free of exchange, He held out no hope of any preference being given to shareholders. The Company was not prepared to go into the meat preserving business. With respect to bacon curing the Company did not intend to buy pigs ; but should a large number be guaranteed the Company would consider the advisability of curing them, but could not undertake the sale. Mr Kyall was appointed auditor and Mr Gane scrutineer for the coming year. The usual vote of thanks to the chairman brought the meeting to a close.
