TARANAKI V. SOUTH AUCKLAND.
AN EXCITING GAME.
Waihi, September 16. At the Taranaki-South Auckland match yesterday afternoon there was a large attendance. In the first spell hostilities I y centred in the visitors 25. Exciting play ensued, the Maroons (South Auckland) nearly setring on several occasions. Towards, the end of the spell from a scrum Leblois, supported by Crowley and Pini, harried play to midfield, where Brown got possession. He sent to Beamist, to Dive, to Stohr. The latter was badly missed by Power, and scored near the comer flag. No goal resulted. From a line out later Clifford to Tumor to Murray, who got over, but lost the ball. Truscott was handy and scored the Maroon’s only try, and the spell ended 6 all.
Iu the second spell Dive secured a try and Cameron a goal from a mark, the scores being Taranaki 9, Auckland 3. The Maroons pressed hotly, placing the visitors on the defensive. The excite , ment was intense, but no further score Was recordod.
