CORRESPONDENCE.

[We are net responsible for the opinions expressed by our correspondents.)

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—ln Tuesday’s Te Aroha News I read a letter with much interest from “ Observer.” It is a pity such men are not oh our Borough Council. Every ratepayer must see that the leaving of coaches, etc., on the street, is a great danger to the lives of the people, and no civilized Borough in New Zealand would permit such a disgraceful state of affairs. Time after time have we been warned by runaway horses, but it has no affect on the gentlemen who represent the ratepayers. They take not the slightest notice of these warnings. When there is a valuable life lost, not before, will there be any notice taken, and then, sir, what compensation can there pos« sibly be made for loss of life ? I think, sir, there should be legal advice taken, and see if the Borough Council could not he held responsible for their gross mismanagement. Call it by its very mildest name, in allowing such a grave danger to continue. If the policeman is under the ’control of the Borough Council the sooner the authorities are communicated with the better. No doubt there is something radically wrong, and it is to be hoped the ratepayers, for their own interest, will elect a man who will see justice done before we ar3 let in for heavy damages. No doubt your contemporary will say we are«injuring the place by drawing attention to such matters. I agree with “ Observer ” that we ought to feel thankful to have such a paper as the Te Aroha News, which is open at all times to insert any letters which are for the advancement of the Borough, and you also try to right any wrong, without fear or favour to any party.—l am, etc., Ratepayeb.
