New York, September 14 A telegram from Battle Harbour brings a statement derived from members of_the expedition aboard the Roosevelt that Commander Peary and one Esquimau alone reached the Pole. Peary’s Negro servant, Hansen, and three Esquimaux who made the dash, were left on the march to await their leader’s return. , Sir Wilfred Laurier, Premier ot Canada, demands all territory between the North American boundary of thw Pole as the recognised hinterland pf Canada. Dr Cook stated he entrusted some of the notes of his observations to Whitney, an American millionaire explorer, whom he met on a shooting expedition near Etah. Commander Peary telegraphs: “ I have no knowledge of Cook having given Whitney any records. There are no Cook records on the Roosevelt’”
Peary’s party, on the Roosevelt, leaves Battle Harbour on Saturday for Sydney, Nova Scotia. Fifty reporters are awaiting the arrival of the explorer.
