THE NORTH POLE
London, September 9. Home and Canadian papers are al* ready claiming the North Pole under the old boundary arrangements between Britain and America. Commander Peary telegraphed to President Taft, “ I have the honor to place the North Pole at your disposal.” The President replied, “Thanjistfor your interesting and generous ofiar., but I do not know what to do with it I congratulate you sincerely.” Dr Cook states he will not degrade himself by answering Commander Peary’s allegations, and that ,b]fe denial will not be forthcoming until the accusations are baaed on scientific data made. He is willing to lay himself and his observations before a council of scientists of all nations The Esquimaux whom he employed were no man’s, and did not belong to Peary.
