A boisterous wet month w Ith a phenomenal rainfall of 16.2(3, inches for 21 wet days, th,e average fall distributed in month being over half an inch per day. Heavy rain marked the commencement and end of the month, 2 80 inches falling on the first day, but the heaviest day’s fall was on 28th inst.,. when GJ inches were recorded. These figures are interesting when compared with those for the corresponding month of last, yaar, when the total rainfaH for August was 4.15 inches distributed over 13 wet days, and the heaviest day’s fall in that per_od being, 1,54 inches. The middle of the month was characterised by mild keen weather. A sharp hail-storm was ex}*erienced on the 17th, and on the 18th a ight mantle of snow capped the surrounding ranges.
