Hungahunga Drainage Board.

A meeting of the above Board was held in the Secretary’s office, Boundary-street, on Saturday last at noon, when there were present:—Messrs T. Hanna (chairman). H. Makgill, J. Orr, D. Waghorn and J. K. Franks. —Wages Men.— Messrs Finnerty and J, Layne, enquiring as to how long they would have to wait for wages due them. —The Clerk was instructed to reply that not being the contractors the Board could not recognise the claim unless an order was. received from the contractor. — to pay only Carrol's claim. The Chairman reported that the engineer did. not consider it worth his wh’le to visit the various contracts owing to the flooded state of the country.

—Finance.— The Secretary reported that the general account at the Bank is over-r* drawn, and it would be necessary to strike a higher rate or have a reclassification.—Mr Makgill suggested that. a special rate be struck on a classification basis.—ln reply to Mr Makgill the Chairman stated a reclassification could be made after the Board had been in existence for three years. It was resolved on the motion of the Chairman seconded by Mi Makgill that a special meeting be held to consider re-classification, in the meantime Mr Jno. McCaw be communicated with, enquiring as to his w.llvngness to act as classifier.

—Drainage on Bell’s Propeity.— The Chairman stated that in connection with the drainage through Mr Bell’s propeity, Mr Chudleigh had gone to Christchurch for a few deys, but on his return the question would be gone into. Mr Laird did not appear too favourably disposed towards the contemplated drainage, and put certain obstacles in the way. Foreman F. Hughes forwarded statement of time for past month. —Travelling Expenses.— Mr J. Orr moved the notice of motion standing in his name that the existing motion be rescinded, and that in future members be paid at the rate of one shilling per mile travelling expenses, mileage counted one way only. The Chairman seconded and it was carried.

—Accounts.—

Several accounts were passed for payment and the meeting terminated.
