London, July 29. The sitting of the Defence Con'’ ference at the War Office, where a discussion on the land forces is being taken, is now expected to be briefer than was at first anticipated since the views of R. R. Haldane (Secret tary of State for War) generally harmonise with the aims of tbs Australian policy, while Canada has already taken steps to adopt a similar scheme- No long discussions are therefore expected on army (matters, but problems will, it is anticipated, prove more difficult of settlement, and will occupy more attention.
