Manawaru Notes.
(From our own Correspondent.) Grass is more plentiful, considering we are in the middle of winter, than has been the case at any corresponding period in the past. Some the farms look very well indeed. ~ The New Zealand Dairy Association’s creamery is buzzing away every alternate day, and suppliers thereto are getting 9d per lb. butter fat. It seems to me that this creamery will continue working right through the winter at no very distant date. This will meet with the approbation of the majority rf the settlers.
The local butchery has changed hands, and the new proprietor seems to he a very energetic and businesslike sort.
Signs of the times. We have had several weddings out this way lately, with more to follow, and new houses are going up all around us.
It is rumoured that we are to have a Town Hall—a most necessary thing for any township—Mr A. Thackery has, I believe the matter in hand, and I trust the venture will meet with the success it deserves.
The Manawaru Co-operative Dairy Company closed down on May 31st,, after a very successful season. The payments for the last two months being 8d per lb. Considering the time of the year the roads are in fair condition. A few bad holes need filling up.
