MORRINSVILLE v. TE AROHA. This match was played at Te Aroha on Saturday last and after a good and exciting game, resulted in a win for the Blue and Blacks by five points to nil. Both teams had their best men in the field. Moriinsville forwards were a bit heavier than Te Aroha and they also played with fine combination, their backs being content to play a defensive game. In the open Te Aroha were slightly the best but lacked the combination of their opponent, who had the best out piay and scrums. Mr Scott', of the Thames, again gave every satisfaction as referee, while Messrs Ashfield and W. Allison looked after the lines. Two spells of forty minutes were played, Mr Dalton acted as timekeeper. Rage won the toss for the visitors and defended the northern goal with a strong breeze in his favour. McKee set the oval in motion and the game was at once confined to the forwards. Morrinsville
started attacking and kept Te Aroha on . the defence for some minutes. A passing run by the white backs was nipped in the bud by Gaddes getting away with the ball at his toe. Play lingered in the home 25 and Mclntire got over from a situ in but had the misfortune to throw forward. A short time after the same player made a good opening for Hinton who took the ball well and got over between the posts. Edkins kicked an easy goal. Previous to this score the blues had the misfortune to lose a player, he having got kicked on the leg, his place was taken by a substitute. The Blues got to work again and kept the home team busy for a while. Te Aroha a turn at attacking without success. Hinton, Page and Gaddes were doing a lot of defensive work and succeeded in keeping their opponents at bay, the spell ending without any further score.
' SECOND SPELL. The latter half of the game was more even than the first. The Blue pack set the Whites an object lesson in com - bination. Both sides came near scoring at times. Towards the last the home team made desperate efforts to score, but the fine defence shown by Page. Edkins and Hinton frustrated all attempts to The last five miuutes was pi aMd'iv semi-daikniss. The Blue and B 1^ t s registered their third win for fh/.Jseason and Te Aroha their first •fit. • B s>~m r insville 5 points (a try and goal. - Te Aroha nil. NOTES.
The result of this npatch puts the three teams engaged on a more even footing and with only one more round to go interest in the games will be sustained till the end Eor the winners Page, Hinton, Worthington and Mclntire were the best of the backs. Of the forwards it would be hardly fair to single out a player asall pla3 r cd a gocd game. For Te Aroha H. McSweenev. Ellery and McPike all did well and in the pack Millar, Honeybun, S. Jennings and Cnbb were the most noticeable. The I three former should prove good P.R.U. repp. .
