The ordinary meeting of the Piako County Council will be held at the Council’s Office, Te Aroha, on Tuesday, the 15th inst., at 10.30 a.m. The residents of Mmawaru and Wainta are reminded that the Rev. A. J. Reed will conduct service at Mana vatu at 2.30 and Waiata at 7 On Sunday next. On Sunday evening last the Rev. W. R. Poole delivered a stirring sermon in the local Methodist Church. We have received a pamphlet on universal training, forwarded with the conpliments of the Hamilton Borough Council. The pamphlet contains a report of the discussion on the subject named at a recent meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council, opinions of promineut men, and of the press on the proposal together with a resume of the discussion oil the Hamilton Borough Council on the Dreadnought offor. Mr T. W. Kirk, Government biologist, states that the introduction of ladybirds has averted a loss of £I,OOO 000 at least by destroying the blue gum blight. Wo understand that an apiary is to be established at Waihou. Mr Feeder, a recen- arrival from Home has purchased a portion of Mrs McCarthy’s property at Waihou and intends building thereon with a view to farming bees. We wish Mr Feeder every prosperity in his new venture.
Tennis players appear to be somewhat dissatisfied with the Tourist Department depriving them of the asphalt teunis court. Yesterday being the half-holiday, several went down to indulge in a practice only to find the court torn up preparatory to laj’ing down the new bowling green. The local tennis club intend to lay down private courts next season.
