At the monthly meeting of the Ohinemuri Council held at Paeroa, the following members were present : —Messrs Grace (chairman). Strange, Crosby, Nathan, Laughlin, Lloyd, Corbett, Marrinan, and Franklin. - The Euakaka Eoad —
A letter was received from the Te Atoha Borough Council, asking on what terms tbe Council would make a road to the Borough’s power house. The Engineer was instructed to report on the matter. —Waitoa Drains—
Besidents of Waitoa petitioned the Council to have various drains in that district cleaned out.
Consideration of the matter was postponed until the engineer has inspected the drains.
—Waitoa Eoads —
S. Allen wrote asking how the Council proposed to spend the money received from the Bank of New Zealand for- tbe roads in the Waitoa Estate, and stating
that some of the money should be spent on the Nos. 7 and 8 roads.
Mr Srrange moved that Mr Allen be informed that the Council intends spending the money in the best manner possible for the greatest good of the whole of the settlers.
—Sand at Mangaiti—
S. H. Davey applied for permission to take 20 yards of sand from the Council’s pit at Mangaiti. On Mr Strange’s motion, it was desired to grant the desired permission. —Deferential Eating —
The Clifton County Council wrote asking if the Council would support an amendment to the Counties Act to provide for deferential rating in special rating districts.
The letter was received. —Vote of Condolence—
On the motion of Mr Grace, a vote of condolence was passed to Mrs E. Edwards on the occasion of the death of her husband. The motion was passed in silence by all tbe members standing. —Defaulters’ List It was decided to Lave a return prepared of those who did not pay their rates last year, tbe same to be submitted to next meeting. Several complaints were made by members about mistakes in the valuation roll, cases being given in which persons have been struck off the valuation roll who paid their rates last year, and who still own the property. It was decided to draw the attention of the Valuation Department to the large number of mistakes, and ask for an explanation of the matter. —Finance Committee's Beport The report of the finance committee was read and adopted. The report stated that the overdraft amounted to £12,115 4s 8d ; total indebtedness, £12,511 128 Bd, of which amount £1,928 !s 8d would be recoverable from tbe Government ; receipts last month amounted to £92 8s 5d ; contract liabilities outstanding amounted to £3,774 Is sd, of which amount £IO7B 4 s 7d was iueluded in the accounts for payment ; and the accounts for payment totalled £2,137 os 6d, of which £953 18s Id would be recoverable from the Government.
Tbe Paeroa Water Supply Account showed a credit balance of £315 17s 8d ; receipts showed last month amounted to £2O 5s ; and accounts amounting to £34 14s lOd were passed for payment.
The credit balance to the Paeroa Cemetery Account was £5(5 10s Pd ; last month’s receipts were £2 (3d ; and the accounts for payment amounted to £1 10s.
