Second Regiment of A.M.R. in Camp
News from Ihe Camp is to the effect that excellent weather prevails, and a large amount of profitable work is being got through. The trek to the camp at Mr Starkey's farm, Morrinsville, was carried out under strictly active service conditions. The advance guard, consisting of four troops of the A Squadron, under the command of Major W. R. C. Walker, was thrown out in proper formation, and marched half a mile ahead of the main body. The main body, consisting of the C., D., and E. Squadrons, less one troop was under tho command of Captain Berry. The i.rear guard consisting of one troop of the E. Squadron, was under the command of Lieut. Nicholson, and marched a quarter of a mile in rear of the main body. The B. Squadron Piako, under the command of Captain Tattersall, reached the camping ground on Saturday afternoon, and pitched the camp in readiness for the remainder of the regiment, and on arrival on Sunday everything was found in first rate order, and a hot meal ready for the men which they did full justice to, after having groomed, covered, and fed their horses. Reveille sounded Monday morning at 530 am, stables at 6 a.m., and breakfast at 6.45 a.mt At 8.15 a.m the regiment will march and attack with ball cartridge an imaginary enemy represented by a series of khaki targets placed at unknown positions along the face of the hills at the back of Mr Starkey’s house.
The muster at Camp constitutes a record for a mounted regiment in the Dominion, 280 of all ranks being present, divided as follows : A. Squadron, Capt. J. J. Raynes 65 B. Squadron, Capt.
