St. Mark’s Church.
ANNUAL MEETING OF PARISHIONERS. The annual meeting of the parishioners of St. Mark’s Church was held in the Pnblic Hall on Friday last, June 4th, There were present:—Rev. P. Cleary, Dr. Kenny, Messrs Bruce, Maingay, McGirr and Baskett (vestrymen), Hall (layreader), Fawcett, Mclndoe, Cornish, Burton, Crosher, Harris, Smith, Salmon, J. Wild, Nash and about 40 ladies,
The meeting was opened by the Rev, Cleary. During the evening My Hall gave a recitation, Messrs Brett and Mclndoe contributing some very good songs.
The minutes of the last annual meeting were read, and on the motion of Mr Cornish, seconded by Mr Fawoett, wert adopted, A very lengthy annual report by tbe Secretary and Treasurer was read, also the balm q i-sheet, which, owing to some incongruities in the old accounts of liabilities, was adopted, The Vestry’s report by the “Vicar was very satisfactory, and showed th it the Sunday-School Superin'endent (Mr J. Wild) and the teachers had been doiug good uuseltish work, and it was a matter pf regret thit there was no bu : l ling for school and parish work, Mr Wharton Thompson resigned as o r gaui?t at Eastqr, aud since then Miss M«ingay, Miss Hodges and Mb'S Boswick had ably presided at the organ. Mr Nash, as choirmaster, and the members of the choir were working very harmoniously. The matter of finance was a little problem, They thought the church was practically clear, but found thero was over 4)100 of old liabilities. Nearly £4OO had been expended on enlarging the Vicarage, £(l2 I2s of which had been pii vatcly contributed.
The ladies of the congregation were working to make the Sale of Work at Easter, 19i0, a big success, in order to e’ear off the liabilities. Mrs Dr. Kenny b'iel kindly offered to collect voluntary subscriptions directly now Yostyy authorised her fo do §q. EJECTION OF OFFICERS.
Tlje election of officers then took place, Dr. Kenny ip the chair. Mr R, L. Somers was nominated by the Vicar as hie Warden, ;pid for People’s Warden Mpssrs Mqingay and Hmcc were nominated, bgt declined the honour, Dr. Kenpy waq nominated by Messrs Nash and Brute, and elected, It was resolved that the number of the Vestry be five, The foflqwipg gentlemen were nominated, and the voting resulted; —Messrs McGii p 12, F. Wild 9, W. Maingay 5), Baskett 8, Fawcett G, elected ; and Nash, J - B, Johnson, John Rowe, Dali 5, and Rrgce £. Messrs Cornish, Harris, J. Wild, Crosbtp, Burton and Mcludoe were nominated, but declined. A point ires raised as to whether absentees could be nominated wi'ffiput their consent in >yiiting or otherwise, and after some sparebing through the statutes, and not being able to find any authority or otherwise, thp (3b a i rman rulpd that it was not npcessary to hayo thp acceptances of absentees in writing. Messrs Burton and Crosber were thp scrutineers.
Votes of thanks were passed to Mr McGirr as Secretary and Treasurer, to Misses M a ' n gay, Hqdges aud Boswick, organjsts; Mr Nash, as choirmaster, and the choir ; Mr ,f. Wild, and Sundayschool teachers; Mr F. Wild and My Hull, as Lay Readers ; and to the buy bellringers, Masters Burton and Mcli|due, The Vicar pronounced tho Benediction, after which refreshments were handed rqund Dy tho St. Mark’s Girls’ Guild
