Tennis Social.

The Te Aroha Tennis Club have brought a most enjoj'able and successful season’s work to a close. During the season they played 12 matoheq 7 of which they have won. Three have bedn lost, and 2 were drawn. Avery pleasing feature of the entire play has been the sportsmanlike feeling that prevailed amongst the various Clubs, good play being more appreciated than victories. This good feeling resulted in the Club’s deciding to have a worthy conclusion to such an enjoyable season, and on Wednesday evening last, they were “At Home” to their worthy opponents, friends and sympathisers in the Tourist Dejjartment’s new tea kiosk. Some sixty odd persons were present. Progressive euchre was indulged in until about 10.15. and then musical items, etc., were rendered until supper time, a song by Mr Dent being much appreciated. Those not playing euchre finding plenty iti ping-pong and other indoor games to amuse them. About 11 p.ir. those j'rescllt sat down to a sumptuous supper, which was laid in the two inner rooms, and justice was done to the good things provided. Shortly after supner the Club’s VicePresident, Mr W. W. Maingay, in a very neat speech, annouuced the winners of the various prizes, and called on Mrs Brodie to make the presentations. Miss Hamilton winning the first prize for ladies, Mr Maingay the first for gentlemen. Miss Hunt secured the booby prize for ladies, and Mr C- Scott that for gentlemen. Dancing was then iudulged in with spirit until the “ wee sma’ hours,” excellent musi; being provided by Misses Maingay, Bosson, Stanley and Harris The floor was in splendid order, and everyone being made at home, they thoi roughly enjoyed themselves. The whole evening was ore long to be jeaiembered, and reflected great credit on the liar I working committee, under Secretary Seocombe, refrain from men 1 inning other names, for where all worked so well it would bo impossible to single out any lor special mentiou.
