Tub mbit ary monthly meeting of the ».hove body to >k place in the Council Chumters riay. The following memheas were in attendance :- Mr VV. P. Chenmffl (Chiiruim) Crs. J. Thomas, Thomas Bellamy, Chas. Mauuel, W. T. VV. Hughes, and J. Brady. Minutes re d aud confirmed, inward and outward correspondence dealt with. - Bosson’s Cr ssing In reply to Cr. Thomas the Clerk stated he had received no further communication from the Department re the above. —A Nasty Drain— R. B Hines. Te A roll a W« st, wrote drawiug attention to the bad state of the drain running through his property and also Mr Peats’. If the drain is not denied out some if the people living near it stand a good chance < f getting a fever, as all the waste from Te Aroha West Creamery runs into the drain. He expressed his willingness to cle n out his part of the drain if the County would do it from the bridge through Peats.’ — Cr. Hughes said he understood that the Chairman of the Baby Company said he thought the Company would assist in the matter.—The Chairman said the Dairy Company bail no right to put a lot of filth into the drains. Apart from the fever referred to the cattle and horses might drink the water with bad results. It is a matter for the Health Inspector. —lt was tesolvod that Cr. Thomas and the Supervisor inspect the spot and repoit fit nxt meeting. Waitoa Drainage -
F. H. Perrott wrote expressing his pleasure at seeing the Conned cleaning out so many of the Waitoa drains, which will prove a great boon to the district. He trusted, however, the Council will include No. 4 dra : n with the others as it is his principle outlet. —Cr. Thomas said it was a request that should be attended to.— On the rnotiou of the Chairman. seconded by Cr. Bellamy, that tenders bo called for the work—about 35 chains.—Canled.
Matthew Henry wrote, stating that ho hoped the Council is to undertake the eleaning-up of No. 7 Road drain passing liis farm, particularly that portion north of section 46; also that portion of No 9 Road drain lying in the Piako County. He desired that the matter be attended to as early as possible.—Resolved on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr. Thomas, that the Council cann it sec its way to comply with the request. —Waiorongoumi-Waitawhota Track—
From Ministerof Mines, acknowledging receipt of Council’s objection to supplying plans for tbe construction of the track, and stating that Council's representations on tbo subject arc receiving consideration. Goldfields Revenue — The Treasury advised that the Gold fields revenue for the period ended .‘list March, £3 3s, had been placed to Council’s credit. —A Broken Promise John Borrie informed the Council that the County drain through his property at Waihou requires cleaning. The conditions under which the drain was permitted are not being carried out. —Cr Thomas said he thought the should do something in the matter. There were some 13 chains required attention, —Chairman ; If wo go iu this way fixing up drains a much larger rate will have to bo struck, —Decided to report on the matter, —Waiorongomai Tram — From W. Greening, mine manager, Waiorongomai Min s, Ltd., drawing attention to the state of the culvert at the Premier hopper, blocked up by debris, which causes water to flow along the tram and block up the drain with rubbish, and thus prevent the ventilation of the mine. —He also complained of contractors throwing spoil on to tha track leading to the mine. - Resolved that the letter be forwarded to Tramway Supervisor. -.That £5,000 - S. S, Allen, solicitor, wrote on behalf of Mrs K. P. Allen, with reference to the roads on the Waitoa Estate, asking for information as to how the Council proposes to spend the £5,000 which tho Piako and Ohinemuri County Councils have jfeiutly received from the Bank of New Zealand for the dedication of the above mentioned roads. He de.-ired this information in order to ascertain what proportion (if any) of tbo amount the Council intends to spend on Nos 7 and 8 roids. Quite apart from all question of logal liability the Council will have already appreciated the justice of spending Re money proportionately.—Cr. Manuel considered the letter most uncalled for What right had he to suggest where tbe money should be spent. ll* thought they should inform Mr Allen that the Council is nble to attend to its own business. —Resolved on tbe motion of the Chairman, seconded bj’ Cr. Manuel that are >ly he sent.to the effect that the Council will spend the money where they consjd-r it would prove the greatest benefit to the district.—lt was further decided that the foreman and Cr. Bellamy visit the locality about No. 8 and draw Up an estimate of the probable cost. Morriusyillo Bridge Approaches A. Ppoudlopk, Moprinsville, suggesting that the new bridge approaches be proceeded with at once, so 'hat tho new traffic bridge could be oponod for traffic as soon as completed. The present bridge is unsafe. He offered to do the filling in work for one shilling per yard.
—To Jfawapa Roads and Drains— A petition was received from Robt. Harris, P, Flynn, E, Hip worth, C. Grainger, nnd P, Anderspn. drawing attontion to the state of the To Kawana Roads and drains. At the oerner of Flynn’s and Gould’s the drain had oveiflowed ac-oss the road for some two chains, for two years, The road drain On Gould’s side haying slipped in for over half-a-ipile. The petilioneiEi also requested that the reserve drain be Cleaned and deipened, from the “Third’s” iponoy received from the Lands Board, from Sections 11 and 1U to Ohinemuri boundary, to prevent the adjoining lands being flooded - It was resolved that Cr, Thomas and the supervisor inspect the roads apd 4 ra ifiß and report at ne*t meeting. Waitoa-Walton Bridge—
From P- Gilchrist, solicitor, re the Waitoa-Walton Bridge, and the talcing of land therefor—fresh plans had to be submitted, which has now been done These are being forwarded to Mr Burd, District Road Engineer for his approval. —Ngarua Road Drain— The Clerk of the Hungahunga Drain’ age Board wrote stating the Board has under consideration the otter made by the Couucil re road drains between Cochrane’s and Ngarua. —-Richmond Downs Road O’Neill and Stewart, solicitors, forwarded plan of the proposal deviation in
roads, and asking for Council’s endorsem >nt. —Agreed to
—Slaughterhouse License — Frank Marshall, Morrinsville, app io d for a renewal of his slaughterhouse lieeuse. John Alexander Yallmco, Manawaru, applied for a renewal license ; A. A. Holmes, Manawaru. transfer to J. A. Vallanee ; W. ,J. Sweeney, Te Aroha, transfer to George Hedge and W. E. Smith,
—Piako Bridge Accident — S. S- Allen, solicitor, Morrinsville, wrote on behalf of his client, “ Dick, ’ a Maori, to the effect that his client had suffered through the shock and his horse was injured. It was possible there would be a claim for damages.—Cr Manuel said the whole thing appeared to be magnified. There was no hole in the bridge until the Maori made it through his horse prancing about. Certainly there was no neglect on the part of the Council. He moved that the letter be received. —Cr Hughes seconded. —The Supervisor was instructed to have a look at the horse the first time he was at Morrinsville. —Road at Gordon —
B. Montague waited on the Council asking that about 20 chains of road at the Southern portion of the Manawaru riding be sanded or mettllei. As a supplier to the factory he had to pass over the road twice a day, and it was nearly impossible to get over. To sand the road would cost one shilling a load. He had gravel on his property which he was prepared to give to the Council. It would be a pity to use saud when gravel is so handy. The portion referred t> is on the Stanley cutting across to Gordon-Waharoa Road. 11 he metal could be put on for about 3s Gd or 4s a yard.—Cr. Brady :JA portion is indeed very bad. —It was resolved on the motion of Cr. Hughes seconded by Cr. Brady that the Foreman be instructed to caff tenders for gravelling the whole length with power to stop the work should the wet weather set in.
—Contractor's Deposit. — 11. Bellamy wrote to the effect that he had fouud out the amount of work in his contract was double his estimate. He had made six chains and desired to relinquish the contract and asked for the return of his deposit.—lt was resolved on the motion of Cr. Manuel seconded by Cr. Hughes, that Mr Bellamy be paid for work done and that his deposit be forfeited.—lt was left with the Supervisor to interview tho next tenderer (Torpay) and if possible make satisfactory arrangements with him.

J.Tallantire wrote drawing attention to 'a slip across the road, which prevented pack horses going up and down —Decided to have the matter attended to.
—An Application— J. Black wrote to the effect that ho had been for some time employed by Mr Breakcll, on tho Piako downs, preparing plans, taking levels, etc., and hearing that the Council were about to carry out a let of drainage work, he offered his services. —Decided to refer applicant to Waitoa Drainage Board.: —Kei cone Bridge—
It was resolved that Beeson’s application on his K‘*roone Bridge Contract be withheld.
—Lovegrove’s Road Decided on the motion of Cr. Thomas, seconded by Cr. Manuel, that the Foreman proceed with the above work as soon as the money is fortho lining. —Damage to Road — •
It was res lived on the motion of Cr, Thomas, seeonded by Cr. Hughes, that the manager of the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company be written to requesting them to terminate the carting of boulders to the Waihou sale yards till after the winter, as the road is being considerably damaged. —Au Objection — It was resolved on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr, Thomas “ that the. Council lodge an objection to tho Waitoa Drainage Board having control of |No 1 or No. 7 Roads for land drainage purposes, or cutting or enlarging the read drains.” The Chairman pointod out that by draining down the roads as contemplated the roads would be damaged to such an extent as to make them useless. —The drawing up of the objection was left in the hands of the Chairman and Mr Gilchrist.
—lluufrahunga Drains go. A deputation consisting of Messrs T. McTndoe, D. Waghorn and Moreing. waited upon the Council, drawing attention to the damage done to their farms-—an 1 also Messrs Lockyer and Stark’s—-by the neglect of the Council in cleaning out and deepening the road dr.:ins --Mr Mclndoe, who acted as spokesman, poiuted out that tkr present state of the voids and drains were hampering the sottlors, who were struggling to imnrove their properties. —Tenders The following tenders were received and dealt v. ith : No. 70.
