Whakatane, May 10. The Hon. McKenzie, Minister for Public Works, airived from Te Puke on Sunday morning at seven o’clock. The journey o 67 m ’es occupied 11 hours. The stopp: l at Matata for luncheon. i-ne Minister received a deputation for which i urged that the district be connected with the railway system advocating the Te PnheTauranga route. The Minister rephed t a the trial survey had not been completed. n the meantime he could not make any definite statement on the subject. Further epiitations were received after dinner a Whakatane. The Minister and party lelt for Optihi this morning.
