The annual meeting of householders was held in the School on Monday evening. There were sixteen present. Mr J. T. Spargo was voted to the chair. The report and balance-sheet, which showed receipts at £42 Is 10d and expenditure at £33 2s od, was adopted. During the year, by the generosity of Mr and Mrs Scholium iu promoting a concert the sum of £25 had been st ent in books for the school library. The sum of £3 9s remains to provide eases for the books. The statement in connection with the school books supplied by the committee at cost price was also adopted. Mr Leeson expressed surprise at the small attendance considering the trouble taken bj r the secietary Mr C. Gummer, in forwarding a circular to each householder, inform them of the meeting. Mr Pickett also spoke of the lack of interest taken in. school matters, and considered if a concert was organise 1 it would go a long way towards awakening parents’ interest in the school as w r eli as educating the children to public singing. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the outgoing committee for their efforts in getting the road through the school ground closed, and also w itli the purchase of the section for a horse paddock, and erectiug shelter shed the.-too. The members present briefly returned thanks. All present were nominated and on a ballot being taken t l o following were elected a committee for the ensuing year Messrs W. O. Pickett, C. M. Gummer, F. J. Marshall, S. Snell, J. E. Leeson, G. F. Oates, and W. J. Neels. Mr Pickett was elected Chairman, and Mr C. M. Gummer secretary. Mr Spargo decline Ito stand for nomination.

The funerabof the late Martin Manion took place on Monday afternoon an 1 a large number attended to show their sympathy with the sorrowing family. The whole of the school children and teachers marched to the cemetery, deceased having been a pupil of the local school. There was a large number of floral tr.butes of sympathy. The Rev. The Committee of the local Foow| Club met on Tuesday evening s

arranged details in connection wjth the match to be played on Saturday. A dressing tent is to be provided ; a charge of sixpence is to be made at the gate in aii of the Club’s funds. Play to start at 3 p.m. sharp. A meeting of the juniors is called for Thursday (thi^)

evening. The final in the Tennis Club’s competition for the racket presented by Messrs C. and A. Guinmer, in the ladies’ section, was played on Monday afternoon when Mrs It. Jones (Jo) defeated Miss Manuel (20) by 15 poiuts. Mrs Jones is to be complimented on her success as this is her first year of playing. The finals in the gents’ section is to be p’ayed. The local lodge of Oddfellows contiuues to flouiish, after lodge business was concluded ou Tuesday evening, a very interesting debate was indulged in on the question “ Is compulsory military training for the male inhabitants of New Zealand desirable' ” Mr A. Gummer took the allirmutive and Bro. S. Allen the negative, the debate proved very entertaining and aftfr several members bad aired their views a vote was taken, the majority being in favour of the negative, Refreshments were provided by the sooial committee, and a very successful evening closed at 10 p.m. Save al frosts have been expet ienced here during the list few days, and being followed by a hot sun will retard the growth of feed.
