With reference to Brumby’s Road it is recommended that the matter be left in the hands of Cr. Brady and the Supervisor with power to act. Supervisor Johnson wrote as follows: “ I beg to submit to ycuan estimate of the requirements for the ensuing year, which I trust you w'll find ‘n order and to you: satisf etion. With reference to the Waitoa Riding I have not included in the estimate any works that are laid down m the scheme for the roading of the Waitoa Estate which are to be paid for out of the monies received from the Bank of New Zealand.

In dealing with the estimates as a whole I have not in any ease taken into consideration the cleanmg of the drains at the road sines aid outlets that are anui ally being cleaned out by the Council.

I would suggest that the Council should go fully into this question of Road Drainage and to define as io the requirement of each road’s dram age as a sum could then bo fixed and tho Council would then I now how they stood with reference to the amount that is necessary to bo expended in the road drains and outlets.

There is no doubt that liitlieiio a greater amount than is necessary has been expended in the road side drains. Iu going through the estimates 1 would ask the Council to decide which works they are prepared to take in hand for tho ensuing year, us this would then give me a chance of preparing the necessary data piior to calli ig contracts and so arrange that there wi’l be no congestion of contracts in any one month.
