Our Waihi correspondent writes The Alaj r or (Mr J. JNewth), the borough enginter (Mr McArthur), aud Messrs Evans and Clark . (members of the B rough Council) visited Paeroa and the adjacent districts with a view to eliciting information concerning the damages said to have been c- used to farm lands adjacent P> the Ohinemuri River through the alleged deposit thereon of silt, nwring to the tailings from the gold mines of Waihi aud Upper Thames being carried into the stream. After cureful inspection of lands said to have most seriously suffered, the party came to the conclusion that there had not been anything like the amount of damage done that Paeroa people had made out, and that it was largely a question of anticipating damage and destruction.
