A Building Collapses
FATAL RESULTS
Melbourne, April 14. During a heavy squall a large two-storey frame of a building in course of construction for the Orient Timber Company, Geelong, collapsed. Thirty men were employed on the building, the majority of whom working on the roof were injured. Two, Gleeson and Nicholson, succumbed. Ten others were taken to the hospital. Three are in a serious condition.
Prior to the collapse the foreman decided it was too dangerous to continue work owing to the high wind, and ordered the men to cease. They were engaged making everything secure when the crash came. A number of men on the ground floor had a miraculous escape. The toppling structure was blown right over them without injuring them. Difficulty was experienced in rescuing the injured who were jammed amongst the debris.
