Presentation to Mr F. W. Wild
AT COUNCIL CHAMBERS At the conclusion of the special meeting of the Te Aroha Borough Council last evening, the Mayor, on behalf of himself and fellow Councillors, presented Mr F. W. Wild, Town Clerk, with a handsome marble clock, bearing the following inscription, neatly engraved on a silver plate : “Presented to F. W. Wild, Town Clerk, by the Mayor and Council of Te Aroha, on the occasion of his marriage, Tuesday, 13th April, 1909. In making the presentation the Mayor said it was the last occasion on which they would have the pleasure of meeting Mr Wild in the Council Chambers as a bachelor, and he had justly earned the small token of esteem and regard in which he is held, and he trusted that Mr Wild would value the clock, not for its intrinsic worth, but for the spirit which prompted the Council to make it. He hoped his married life would prove a happy, pleasant and P ro * fitable one. He jocularly remarked that he hoped Mr Wild would live long to read the dial of the clock, and that his own “ dial ” would not be harmed in the meantime. Mr Wild thanked the Mayor and Councillors for the very substantial present, and for the kindly way _ in which they had treated him during his term of office.
Councillors Annan, Jackson, Rowe, Annan and Hubbard, also spoke in very laudable terms concerning the Town Clerk, wishing Mr Wild and his future wife long life and prosperity.
