THE CHAMPIONSHIP. Tbintham, March 11. Th* final stage of tbe championship , . series ont of which the fifty highest aggregates have been selected for the King’s Prize competition, was concluded to-day with the 100 yards event in the Canterbury match. The weather was excellent, but there was.a filmly haze over the targets in the earlier stages, and a somewhat variable breeze later. The shooting on the whole 1 was good, and some credible scores were registered, though no one managed to secure the possible (50). Needham, of Palmerston North, put up 45, which brought him up from 25th position to twelfth, with an aggregate of 440. King tion which he attained yesterday, though he dropped a couple of points, coming on with an aggregate of 364 and a score of 47 made in the first score he added 41 to

the final aggregate, which gave him 452 to his credit. He was unfortunate in his fifth shot, as he failed to catch the marker’s eye after getting four bull’s eyes in succession. Duncan, of Millerton, and Patrick, of Auckland, did not do over well at the range, registering 43 and 44 respectively, but they retained their former positions as second and third with a total of 451 each.

Shaw, of Auckland, who started out holding fourth place, went down one, and Guy, who was immediately below him, secured hi* position with an aggregate of 448, four points in advance of Shaw, who only secured a -range register of 38. -

McConnell went up from the 18th place to sixth, superseding Tarr, of Karori, who is now ranked 10th in the aggregates

(Jhing, of Nelson, climbed up five steps, and got into 7th rank, from which Soper, of Taumarina, fell to 10th place, while Ching, of Wellington, went up one, from 14tb to 13th position. Belk, of Fielding, who started with 396 to his credit, cracked up altogether, and only got 89 on his range curd, . The changes were kaleidoscopic throughout, and seven men have now to fire off for the last two places in the fifty.

In the range scoring McElbrae put up an '• all but.” Murphy (Auckland) and Pearson (Auckland) were the only scorers of 48, and Kelbell (Alfredton) the only 47. Murphy won the Canterbury match with a total of 95, Needham (Palmeri ston North) being mnner up with 94. Turner (Linton), with 93, was third. In connection vith the service match Moslem (Kaeo) won the Kvnoch Cup in the firing off of the half dozen ties.

The Champion Teams’ match was one of the important events on the programme, 46 fearns taking part for ihe District Challenge Shield. The Opaki No 1 team put up a Trentbam record, winning the match -with the fine aggregate of 485 out of of a possible 525. The teams consist of five men each, and the average points per shots works out at a little over 4A out of a possible five.

The shooting was the most brilliant of the meeting, no fewer than 22 possibles being recorded. The highest individual score was made by Mawley (Opaki),. Hadfield (Blenheim) and Hawthorn (Wellington! each scoring 101 out of a possible 105 ; while Sorenson (Newton Rifles), Yeo (Auckland), and Mellor (Petone) each aggregated 100. Halliday (Karori) and Henry (Opaki) also aggregated 100. c 'orenson scored the possible at loth the 200 and 500 yard ranges.

A noticeable feature of the Opaki’s ■ win was the scoring of a possible at e-iuh of the three • ranges by a different member of the team.
