Mr Joseph Hocking on Catholics.

London, March 11. Mr Joseph Hooking, the well-known novelist, in a speech at the Free Church Conference to-day made a violent attack upon Roman Catholics. He declared there were now 1131 monasteries and nunneries iu Britain as compared with 700 in 1851. He bitterly attacked newspapers on the ground that they favoured Catholics. Tumultuous scenes followed Mr Hooking’s accusation that prominent Free Church politicians are opposing tW Government’s inquiry into conventual institutions in Britain. The Council has decided to have the speech printed in pamphlet form and sold broadcast at Id per copy. ■
