British Postal Rates.

London, March 11. In the House of Commons, during the discussion on the Postal Estimates, J* Hodges, Labour Member for Gorton Division, Lancashire, moved the insertion of a stricture and fair wages clause jn Government contracts. This led. to Sydney Buxton making a desired amendment which the House agreed to, the labourites accepting it as satisfactory. During the debate the Unionists and some of the Radical Free Traders objected to endeavour to compel official recognition of local Trade Union rates instead of present fair wages clause, because the amendmeut was opposed to the principl® of Free Trade and the Government s system of placing contracts abroad where lower wages were under no disability.
