A Serious Offence.

ASSAULTING A WOMAN,

Auckland, February 18. At the Supreme Court to day the hearing was concluded of the case against Albert Edward Double, William Smith, and Alexander Walker in connection with an assault committed on an elderly woman in the Domain. Double was charged with committing a more serious off nee than the other two, while they were charged with aiding and abetting him in it. The jury found Double guilty of common assault. The other accused (Smith and Walker) being acquitted. Double was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment.
