Waiorongomai Notes
(From our own Correspondent.) Theme is a feeling out here that we aru on the eve of a period of prosperity. For some time past work in the several mining properties have been pushed steadily ahead—what might be termed legitimate goldmining is being indulged in The prospects are good, and very promising.
During the past few days we have had quite a number of visitors out here, some of them visiting the mines in the upper reaches, while others weie content to remain on the flat and gaze upon the rugged background towering high above our township.
It is not true that some of our cricketers are going Home with the Australian eleven, but it is correct that for the size of Waiorongomai, we have amongst us some good bats« men and bowlers.
On Tuesday evening last the Waiorongomai matrimonial tin-can band mustered in force to serenade one of their fellow cricketers and old mate (Joseph Young) give’him a rally, on the occasion of his wedding Miss Shanley, of ’ Arch Hill. Alter a selection on the cans the players were invited inside to partake of refresh mente. Mr W. Beeson, on behalf of the Cricketers presented Mr Young with a silver teapot. Mr Young returned thanks for the handsome present. An enjoyable evening was spent by those present, the party breaking up about 11 o’clock.
