The Cherniavski Concert
♦ Those who enjoyed the privilege of attending the Cherniavski Concert last Friday, speak in the warmest terms of praise of the three highly gifted brothers. The personality of the young Russians, their very tine, presence lent an added charm to their performance, though no charm beyond their wonderful playing was needed to make the concert a success,
The opening trio was enthusiastically received. The Hungarian Rhapsody (Popper) was splendidly rendered by Mischel Cherniavski, who was recalled and recalled, and responded with items which were fully appreciated, one of the encores beiqg “ Gavotte ” (Popper). Jan Cberniavski’s rendering of (a) “Prelude" (Rachmaninoff) and (b) “ Valse Caprice ” (Maughan Barnett) called forth three encores, the audience appearing wholly in satiable in regard to the magnificent music awakened by the marvellous pianist. The “ Faust Fantasie " received a wonderful interpretation by Leo Oherniavski who was thrice encored, responding with “ Minuet ” (Old French,) and other items. After the concluding item consisting of two trios (a) “ Seranade ” (Widor) and (b) “ Moment Musical ” (Schubert) the audience were not favoured with a response though they encored vigorously. The fact that the programme was felt (to haVe bpen all too short was perhaps atflQhg tffe evidences of the entire acceptability of tffe gifjted brothers performance. Their playing will long be remembered by all who were privileged to hear them. Mr Percjval Driyer was also well received, and called upon to respond to encores after each item,
