Butter Market.
Messrs E. Griffiths and Co., are in receipt rf the following butter market report from their London Principals, Messrs Mills and Sparrow, 18/12/08. DANISH. Shipments to the North this week were about 2,500 casks over last. This extra quantity has caused quite a slump there and prices have been very irregular. Quotations in Denmark has been reduced two kroners in consequence SIBERIAN. Some of the better parcels of stored are selling, and the arrivals of freshly made are clearing but at poor prices in comparison with Colonial.
F REN CH. The quantity coming into the various markets is much less and prices all over France are higher. Quotations for fresh (unsalt°d) rolls have been advauced fid per dozen lbs, and baskets aud firkins of salt also fresh baskets, 4s. AUSTRALIAN. Butters ex s.s. “ Oroya ” have come to hand in good order, aud although on the whole prices, in sympathy with the drop in the North, have been in the buyers’ favor, the butters have cleared and the floors i are clear ready for the s.s. “ China’s ” cargo, due to dock to-morrow. NEW ZEALAND. Thes s. “ Athenic” docked this morning ; the Shipping Company hope to get at the butter this evening and have arranged to york all n : ght so as to get the butter out. If this is done it will help agents considerably and enable them to deliver in the country in time for the Christmas trade. There have been some sellers, but most of Jhe agents'are firm for all fancy brands and are holding out for full prices CHEESE. —New Zealand. Quality of the s s “ Turakina ” shipment pleased, and nearly everything is cleared, a few white only being unsold. Coloured at the moment being rather the better sale. Canadian. —Trade slow unless for something of exceptional quality, buyers preferring the New Zealands, which are arriving in fine order. QUOTATIONS.
