Sanitation of the Town.

NEW BYE-LAWS ADOPTED. Our Borough Council are moving in the right-direction, when it is adopting the most up-to-date sanitary bye-laws possible for Te Aroha. On Wednesday evening last a special meeting of the Council was held. All members in attendance, and the Mayor (R. L. Somers, Esq.) in the chair. In addition to the Mayor and Councillors, Dr Purdie (District Health Officer), Inspector Franklin, and the local Inspector, Mr Jas. Salmon, were in attendance. .. The Council adopted the model sanitary bye-laws as prepared by Drs. Frengley and Makgill, slight alterations were made therein, in order to meet the requirements of the district. The Bye-laws will provide for the proper construction of suitable and sufficient drains and other sanitary appliances to carry away the whole of the sewage or other waste liquids from dwellings or other premises to sewers. Also for the licensing of drain layers and plumbers, and for the payment of fees, and to require sanitary works to be exe cuted only by qualified and licensed persons. .... . The council went thoroughly into the whole matter, sittiug from 7.30 to after 11 o’clock.
