The Second Ballot.
BAY OF PLENTY SEAT MR MACDONALD RETURNED Rotorua, Tuesday. The second ballot for the Bay of PfWty took place to-day, with the following result:— -r W. D. S. Macdo laid (G) .. 2092 J. G.Gow(O) .. •• 21tt Majority for Macdonald , 431 There are four returns to come which _ cannot affect the result. A STAUNCH FREEHOLDER Mr Macdonald addressed a large crowd from the balcony of the hall to-night. He thanked the electors for returning him by so large a majority, and his committees and supporters. The contest had been clean and straightforward all through. His opponent, Mr conducted the (election m a gentlemanly manner. He called tor three cheers for him which were heartily Mr Gow agreed that the election had been clean and honorable, though uous. He thanked those who supported him, and said he would again claim their suffrages His opponent had fought m a gentlemanly way- Mr Macdonald was now the speaker’s member, and would have his assistance in matters affecting the electorate. He called for cheers for Mr Macdonald. • Dr Findlay expressed his satisfaction at the result. For the first time for years, he said, Rotorua was represented by a supporter of the Government. Mr Massey congratulated Mr Macdonald on his win, and announced that he was a staunch freeholder. (Cheers). Mr Gow would stand again, iand he (Mr Massey) would prophesy that he would be successful.
