Te Aroha Athletic Club.

FIRST ANNUAL SPORTS

A step in the right direction is being made by the members of the Te Aroha AthUtic Club, in endeavouring to provide amusement for tourists and visitors to this sanatorium during the holiday season. A great mistake has hitherto been made by business people and others in deserting the place, and neglecting in every way to provide suitable ontertainment for visitors, with the result that the place is spoken of as “ slow," and unsuitable to spend an enjoyable holiday. Even the customary (own band is conpicuous by i's absence. This is not as it should be. Te Aroha is well supplied with natural attractions; but these alone will not make the place popular. We must all do our share. On New Year’s Day the first annual sports will be held in the Te Aroha Bridge Domain. A varied programme of some 18 events has been drawn up, aud a most enjoyable day’s outing will be provided, and a Band will be in at tendance. The sports are in aid of the Volunteer Fire Brigade, which body deserv s the assistance of allMessrs J. Maloney ai d D. Wallace are acting as hon. secretaries to a strong committee. Entries close on Saturday, December 19th
