Euchre and Social.
On Wednesday evening last a euchre tournament and social, in aid of the funds of St. Joseph’s Convent and Church, was held in the Public Hall, and as usual with these popular events, was very well patronised. There were some 25 tables in use, while many preferred to be spectators. Shortly after 8 o’clock play commenced, and promptly at 11 the last game finished. When the totals were made up the prize winners were found to be : —Ladies’ Ist, Miss Madge Gavin, 18 wins ; 2nd, Miss A. Baskett, 17 wins; Mrs Parsons, booby prize, 6 wins. Gents :—For Ist prize Messrs D. Wallace and Epping tied with 17 wins each, and on the play off the la;ter won. The prizes were presented to the winners amidst applause. Supper was served by an army of willing assistants, alter which the Hall was cleared for dancing, the Te Aroha Trio supp ied excellent music; Miss Kerr contributed a very acceptable extra. Dancing was indulged in with spirit until an early hour.
