Morrinsville Town Board.

The ordinary meeting of the Town Board • was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday evening. All the members being present except Mr Manuel. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. Outward correspondence approved. Report received from local constable re' the manner in which the billiard saloon was conducted, he reporting favourable but objecting to the time of closing being extended to 11 p.m. Decided that no action be taken, closing time being as fixed in the bye-law, viz., 10 o’clock. Reply from General Manager New Zealand Railways, in re the petition for an entrance to the railway from Moorehouse Street, declining to grant same.— Decided that the communication be handed to the petitioners Letter from Department of Roads re grant for drainage, also from the Treasurer giving authority f.r the expenditure of the .£4OO granted. Decided that an engineer be employed to draw up a scheme of drainage for the Government’s approval. A

committee of the whole Board was appointed to consult with a suitable engineer.

A complaint from the proprietor of the Morrinsville Herald re the Board’s printing the bye-laws having been given to an Auckland firm.—The Chairman’s action was considered satisfactory, and tha letter was received. Letter from C. and A. Gummer re repairs to footpath on north side of Thames street from Studeholme street to Canada Street, foreman to report at next meeting. The Chairman reported completion of the purchase of the pound section.— Decided to affix the Board’s seal to the agreement and have the transfer completed. Owing to an error it was decided to re-advertise the notice ot loan, make it id rate instead of £ of a penny which is insuffieent.

Foreman reported on work done, also that a fence had been erected across Lome Street South.—Decided that the occupier be requested to remove the fence within seven days, otherwise tlie Board will do so at their expense, and the foreman was instructed accordingly. Decided that the foreman procure material and have pound section fenced at once.

Decided that the Board draw the Bank’s attention to the furze growing on their property, requesting its removal. Discussion re recreation ground. Decided that the Board start a petition praying the Government to acquire the Native land, portion of the Te Au-O-Waikato, Block A, lying between the river and railway as a recreation reserve and water supply site, and Mr Herries be asked to forward the matter. Decided to write to District Engineer of Railways, objecting to the Department damming the creek which is the drainage outlet,
