LIQUOR IN NO-LICENSE DISTRICTS.
To the Editor
Sir,—The liquor party is still pursing its policy of concealing facts regarding the above subject. It is circulating the returns of liquor imported into Invercargill, Oamaru, and / sburton, but is not contrasting these with the returns for the rest of New Zealand. In 1907 the average consumption of liquor per head for New Zealand was 10 gals 3 pits ; for Invercargill 5 gals ; for Ashburton 2 gals lpt ; for Oamaru 1 gal 7 pt. During the 5 years of No-License, Ashburton lias consumed 175,000 less gallons of beer than in the previous 6 years. As stated by a recent speaker “ the actual quantity sent into Invercargill for consumpition would provide about half a pint per day for those who voted continuance, leaving about 10,500 of the population without a drop of beer to drink.” If the liquor party is so anxious for the truth, why does it not give both sides of the matter?—lam, etc.,
No-License.
