STATE CONTROL OF LIQUOR.
To the Editor
Sir, —As the Government must ultimately take over the liquor trade, and fell beer and spirits in Government Depots, just as they now sell coal and postage stamps, may I urge every elector to strive to bring this reform about by voting “ No-License ” which will clear the ground for State control of the liquor trad?. State Control means fewer drinking places, good liqnor, no barmaids, and the State to reap all the profits. State Control realeases the publican from a short, hard life and puts the drunkard on his feet.
State Control captures a huge monopoly and separates two lusts : Lust for gain on the part of publicans, and lust for beer on the part of the hard drinker.
The State Liqur Depots will act as safety valves, tending to suppress sly grog shops.
Therefore vote “ No-License” in order to pave the way for a solution of the Drink Curse.
Please do not be influenced by a free cab ride. Your country, once in three years, wants you to exercise your highest intelligence, apart from sentiment at both the Polls.
Friend, it lies just with yourself, that in the interests of a reform you are willling to sign a Prohibition Order against yourself for three years by striking out thet >p line only.—l am, etc.,
S. Pearson
