Meeting of Settlers at Waihou.

On the evening of the 9th inst., the chairman (Mr/T. Hanna) and members of the Hungahunga Drainage Board met the Waihou Settlers to discuss the raising of a loan to carry out important drainage works in the county. There was a representative atrendance and keen interest was shown in the proceedings. The Chairman who has been to considerable pains to acquaint all the settlers affected by the drainage works, with the object of the proposed loan, stated that it was proposed to borrow £4,000 at 34 per cent, and pointed out clearly and concisely the advantages that would accrue to the settlers from doing so. He also gave a brief summary' of the d ings of the Hungahunga Drainage Board since its inception, emphasising the benefits resulting irom the works in course of progress and those already completed Discussion followed and several questions were put by the Piranui settlers and satisfactorily answered by the chairman. • *. The meeting concluded with the usual vote of thanks to the chair. The above is the third meeting which has been held in connection with the proposed loan, and in each instance the general opinion has appeared to be in favour of borrowing the required amount.
