Presentation to Mr J. Reid.
On Monday evening last, a fair number of Te Aroha residents assembled at Pilling’s Sample Rooms to bid farewell to Mr Reid our jovial etatiojimaster. Qn entering the room we were jmpregsed with the neat and decorative Way ip which the table had been laid out and were agreeably surprised tq le rn that the presentation would also take the fqrm qf a•“ Smoker. The Mayqr (Mr Somers) occupied the chair. The toast bMr Reid ” having been honoured, the Mayor in a very neat and appropriate speech presented Mr Reid with a purse of sovereigns, Mr ’ eid responded with feeling and assured the residents of Te Aroha that their action would ahv >ys live in his heart and that the kindliest feelings towards their pretty little town would always be there, Several toasts who proposod and honoured and the evening passed away in a jolly manner. Songs, readings, recitations and nursery rhymes were given by several of the gentlemen present and the proceedings terminated just before 11 o’clock by the singing of “ Auld Lang Syne,” everyone standing and joining hands. We are pleased to leam that Mr Reid’s promotion to Morrinsville will have a tendency to increase the size of his banking account, as the position is more remunerative than the one he has just left.
We wish him every success in his new district and we congratulate the residents of Morrinsville in having in their midst one who is capable, obliging and in every sense of the worty— a wan.
