Te Aroha Bowling Club.

OPENING OF THE SEASON. The official opening of the Te Aroha J bowling green took place on ‘Satur- ? day last. The weather was all that could be desired, and the green proved to be in very fair order. As the result of special invitations , sent out, quite a number of visitors ! were present from Paeroa, Remuera, Hamilton, Karangahake, Waihi, ' Devonport, Wellington and else* 1 where. At the appointed time for starting, the President of the Te t Aroha Club, Mr D McL. Wallace, 1 addressed a few appropriate words of welcome to those assembled, after which he called upon Mrs Wallace to throw the “ kitty ” across the ’ green, which she did amongst loud cheers. Teams were next arranged representing the President and Vice-Presidents of the Club, and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. The teams were evenly matched; the Vice-Presidents’ representatives, however, proved the istronger, and j won by a few points. The following are the results of the games :

(skip) .. 23 Sherlock, Somers, Priestly, Barbour, Box, Smith, Maddern, Mc(skip).. ..21 v. Girr (skip) 17 Phillips, Dickson, Stanley, Towers, White, Wheeler Chappel, Burton (skip) .. 18 v. (skip) .. 17 Coutts, Kenny, Me-* McKee, Crosher. Eldowney Wal- Henderson, Parr lace (skip) .. 20 v. (skip) .. 20 Salmon, Me- Jansen, McSweeney Carthney,Spooner Maiugay, Holland McWattersskip 15 v. ( skip) .. 19 Afternoon tea was dispensed by the Committeemen’s wives, and both the visiting and local bowlers, were well looked after.

i Before dispersing, Mr Wheeler, of Hamilton, thanked the local Club <on behalf of the visitors for the : hospitality meted out to them, and 1 for the most enjoyable time spent by all. The customary cheers were called for and heartily given.

| The Tourist Department very generously provided a large marque on the lawn wherein afternoon tea was partaken of. The Department 1 also supplied the hot water and assisted !in many ways to the enjoyment of , those present.

i In his opening remarks the President of the .Club intimated that a sum of £250 had been voted in order to put the present green in good order.
