MR WOOLLEY’S MESSAGE.
TO ALL GOOD NEW ZEALANDERS [To the Editor.] . Spragg, who, with his family, has been my guest for a few days, thinks that a message from me at this tame would be of interest to New Zealand comrades. , I think he may be right, since I should at any rate send nothing but a ° << 6 tt c^eers are always welcome. Here go, then, by the hand of my very good friend, three Yankee cheers for New Zealand, * the eagles nest of great reforms;’ one for the complete victory of the No-License argument as argument; one for the mysterious, back-acting good, wrapped up in the three-fifths ’ handicap, conceived in fraud and worked out in injustice, which lured on the liquor trade to deeper depths of insolence while the people were getting their bearings; and
utter failure of the claim it rm°~ j , ense \ s a failure in America, debate is ended. The voice of the Church is reinforced by the word of economics to convict “ the trade ” without any recommendation of mercy What remains is constructive decency, under democratic forms, carrying out the decision by electorates, until they are strong enough unitedly to demand, secure, and enforce Dominion prohibition. The repeal of the “three-fifths’ handicap effected absolutely and immediately, and the fight renewed Math a 1 tair field and no quarter, while con- j currently an overhauling of the constabulary and a campaign for total abstinence are inaugurated from sea to sea. “Yours faithfully. „ „ . “Jjvo. G. Woolley, Chicago, July 7th, 1908.”
