Morrinsville Town Board.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Town Board was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday ovening. Present Messrs Allen (Chairman), Clifford, Manuel, Marshall, Pickett, and Parlour. Minutes read and confirmed. Outward correspondence to Mr Foster re fixing levels approved. Inward correspondence as follows : Letter from J. C. R. Watts requesting the Board to attend to the footpath in front of his premises.—Decided that footpath be made regulation width and watertables cleaned out. Letter from Mr Foster offering to do the work of fixing the levels and i showing drainage outfall for the sum of £so. Considerable discussion took place on this subject, and eventually it was decided to call tenders for the work. C. and A. Gummer applied for permission to erect a verandah in Thames-street. Granted.
J. Btackpole wrote requesting the Board to extend the time fixed in the bye-laws for the closing of billiard saloons from ten o’clock to 11 o’clock. — Decided that the matter stand over until next meeting and that inquiries be made as to the closing time- throughout the district, also for a report on the manner in whjcb the saloon is conducted. The application received for the position of ranger, etc, was referred back, the | applicant to apply again next meeting as ho had not complied with the conditions, -Decided that purchase of the Pound Section be completed. Foreman’s report received on various works and also complaining of the wheeled traffic on the footpaths.—Decided to request the Police to see that th“ bye-laws are enforced. Returns of expenditure in each street were handed in, Members considered that the accounts should be kept separate so as to show the expenditure in each street.
A communication re road metal was allowed to stand over (ill next meeting. Clerk to inquire when the grant for the drainage scheme will - be available, Mr Pickett in accordance with his notice of motion, moved that the Board raise a loan of £3OO payable in 41 years at 4 per cent, for metalling roads footpaths.— Carried. Chairman and clerk to take the necessary steps. Arrangements were made for the hire of a hors i for the use of the foreman. A credit note was received from the Manager of the Bank of New Zealand stating that the sum of £l5O of the £SOO, due in connection with the roads had been placed to the Board’s account. Decided that copies of the bye-laws be available for sale for one shilling e*ch. Accounts were passed for payment. The members decided to inspect the footpath in front of Mr Innis’ residence on Friday morning with a view of instructing the foreman what work is required. This concluded the business.
