We expect to see the Hall packed on Thursday evening at the Phil Walsh entertainment.

The tender of Mr Win. Towers has been accepted by the Postal Department for the painting work in connection with the alterations to the Te Aroha Post Office.

The clerk of the Hungahunga Drainage Board (Mr F. W. Wild) has a notice in this issue respecting the proposal to borrow £4OOO for the further construction of drainage works for the drainage of the Hungahunga Drainage district.

The many Te Aroha friends of Mr Jack Kennelly will regret to learn of the death of his young wife, which sad event took place Sunday night at Warkworth Hotel.

The railway department advise that holiday excursions will be issued from any station to Hamilton from Thursday Bth Oct. to Saturday, 10th Oct. available for return up to and including Saturday, 10th, in connection with the Band Contest at Hamilton, on the Bth, 9th, and 10th October. •

In connection with the Mangaiti Social on Friday evening next, we have been requested to state that the popular motor launch “ Rita ” will run a trip, leaviug Te Aroha ab*.ut 7 o’clock, returning after socii l . Those desirious of securing seats should let Mr Belcher know at once # The outing should prove a most enjoyable’ one.

Mr A. W. Edwards has also donated special prize of < ne guinea for the Oddfellows’ Ballito- morrow evening.

Mr W. '’aingay, agent for Messrs Smith and Caughey, Lt l , in an inset in this paper announces that his millinery ! display will open on Saturday (Not Friday as previously announced ) next, 10th ana will continue for one week. No charge , for admission will be made, but during the eveuing a collection in aid of the church renovation fund will be taken up. It is hardly necessary to again remind I our readers of the fact that the long- , looked-for plain and fancy dress ball, under the auspices of the Loyal Odd- J fellows’ Lodge, takes place in the Public Hall to-morrow (Wednesday) evening., Should the weather prove favourabe the ; hall will be well filled and a most enjoyable time spent by all present. The grand march will start at 8.30. The catering has been entrusted to Mr P. Dierek, in whose hands it will doubtless be well looked after. Mr Mclnman’s orchestra (five) will supply the dance , music, which should prove something above the average. In addition to the , prizes already mentioned, Mr A. W. Edwards has given a special prize of one . guinea. i The Te Aroha Fire Brigade have dc- , cided to hold a field day at Te Aroha on New Year’s Day, and a strong committee has been appointed to work the matter up. Our Fire Brigade deserve all the support we can extend them, and doubtless plenty will be forthcoming.'
