New Dairying Regulations

INDIGNATION MEETING AT WAIHOU

The Waihou Public Hall was well filled on Thursday evening in response to an advertisement by Mr W. Abbey, calling a meeting io discuss the above. Mr J. B. Thomas was voted to the chair, and briefly introduced the subject; pointing out the injustice of it. MiAbbey read the new Regulations, which were anything but well received, Messrs O'Donoghue, Lennard, Moysey. Cooper, Burke. Abbey and others spoke strongly on the injustice done todairyinen by the Government in attempting to bring in such absurd proposals. They considered the dairying industry hud been brought to its present high standard of excellence without the assistance of the Government, and thought it hard for them to step in and impose such unworkable conditions on the dairy farmers. After a good deal of comment the following resolutions was carried unanimously on the motion of Mr Abbey, seconeed by Mr O’Donoghue : “ This meeting, representing 100 suppliers, strongly protest against the whole of the Dairying Regulations Act, as being unnecessary, unworkable uni uncalled for, and detrimental to the dairying industry as a whole, the resolution to be forwarded to the Gov.r iment through the member for the district. The following telegram was read from Mr Massey : —“ There is no chance of Parliament agreeing to the ridiculous proposals put forwar 1 as Dairying Re 'illations.” The failure of the Premier to keep his promise re the Waihou goods shed was also touched upon, and some stron ; words spoken, an 1 a resolution passed, to be forw ird *d to the G ivernmeut. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Abbe,- for the trouble he had taken in th matter, and to the Chairman for presid mg. closed the meeting
