Many people of Te Aroha and district have reason to remember some one, or more, of the many itineration vendors of spectacles who have become so conspicu >us of late years, in all ptrts of New Zealaud, A warning against the placiug of confidence in the word or work of these pedlars is not necessary, as the experience < f settlers throughout the district has been such, that a second visit, on the part ,of most of them, would be mos : unwise. Residents, however, may have perfect confidence- iu such visitors as Samuel terry, of Auckland, whose announcem .-n t ppears in another column of th;S paper. Ir Barry has a good record of successful work, and has been proved th -roughly reliable. The brief visit of three days should be taken advantage of very freely. The dates are Oct. 19th. 20th, and 21st, and Mr. Barry may be consulted at the Palace Hotel.
Oar Thames contemporary says : “ Inquires are being made respecting an impression that, if the Bay of Plenty electors vote for no license in sufficient numbers to carry that proposal, the Governmen , owing te tl e peculiar circumstances in which Rotorut is situated as a tourist resort, would bring in special legislation, and try State control there. The reply has been that Rotorua will be put on exac ly the -am * footing is any other place in the Dominion. If no-license is carried, the matter is ended. Therefore, if no-lic-nse is carried the tourist will have to adjust himself o the nevr conditions or stay away. It is stated that there is no chauce of a special law for Rotorua —why should there bj 0 —and special provision for the selling of liquor.
