• Fergusson’s Smelting Company are progressing favourably with the erection of their plant. We understand that some of the properties of the company have been relinquished and will probably be worked independ. n t of the company. It is said that the next meeting of the Mount Zeehan Company is likely to be a lively one. Several pertinent questions are to be submitted, which the old board of directors will be asked to answer There is a general expression of opinion that it was a mistake to close down the minein thefaceof the manager’s expressed wish to the contrary but it is not the first occassion on which such an o our rence has happened.
In order to facilitate matters in connection with the conveying of rails, f >rge, trucks, etc., to Murphy’s Find, an additional three men have Been put on widening “ Brown’s Avenue, ” through the pretty bush scenery towards the seat of operations. Yesterday we were shown a splendid specimen, thickly permeated with gold, taken from “ TheJ Old Prospectors”— close to what is now known as Murphy’s Find—taken out some 17 year ago The piece of stone is part of some tons of picked stone, which realised some 27 ozs. 12 dwts retorted gold. The Syndicate at that time was a very influential one of which Mr J. A. Dobson, secretary ; both these gentlemen, are now numbered with the great majority. Work at Waiorongomai is progressing apace. The Hill Track is being put in order, thanks to the Piako County County Council.
