S. Marks' Concert.
DISTRIBUTION OF SUNDAY
SCHOOL PRIZES
The above entertainment was held in 1 the Public Hall on Thursday evening j last. The night was all that could be ! desired and the hall was filled to the ‘ utmost with both young and old. The Rev. P. Cleary occupied the : chair, and the following programme was rendered :—Cornet Solo, with pianoforte accompaniment, Mr Donovan and Miss Salt ; God’s Music, Girls of S. Mark’s Sunday School ; song, Queen of the Earth, Mr J. S Baskett; recitation, Miss Spence; song, Romany Lass, Mr Blair (encored) ; song, A thousand Leagues under the Sea, Mr Mclndoe (encored, I Tell her I love her So) ; | reading, Mrs Wiggs of the 1 Cabbage Plot, Mr Burton ; this item amused the little folks very much. Song (Swedish) in National Costume, Mrs McGirr ; the audionce will always be sure of a treat when they see this lady’s name on the programmes. Mouth Organ Solo, Mr Thatcher ; song, Poor John, Mr Binstead ; song, Queen of Angels, Mr Blair; cornet solo with pianoforte accompaniment, Mr Donovan, and Miss Salt. The Rev. P. Cleary, then made a short speech and thanked those who so ably assisted with the programme, and also thanked the Sunday School teachers for the trouble they had taken with the children. His Worship the Mayor presented the prizes and at the same time made a suitable little speech to the recipients. The follow- 1 ing is a list of the principal prizes : I GIRLS. Murial Bell, Ist class, 1 ; Ella Frost, Ist class, 2 ; Ethel Rowe, Ist class 3. Winnie Bell, 2nd class, 1 ; Madge Biggs, 2nd class, 2 ; Pearl Bygrave, 2nd class, 3. Mabel Newsham, 3rd class, 1 ; Violet 8011, 3rd class, 2 ; Gladys Beswick, 3rd class, 3. BOYS. A. Bell, Ist class, 1 ; S. Thompson, Ist class, 2 ; G. Peat, Ist class, 3. T. Newsham, 2nd class, 1. ; Cyril Wild, 2nd class, 2; J. Patterson, 2nd class, 3. Willie Newsham, 3rd class, 1 ; N. Bell, 3rd class, 2 ; Colin Dalton, 3rd ■ class, 3. t The infant children were not t forgotten, even the smallest little toddler that attended the Sunday ■ School got a book. Refreshments > were then handed round, and ’ shortly afterwards the meeting dispersed with the singing of “ God Save the King.” A little tuning, or better still a new , piano, would add greatly to the 5 music at these concerts. Soloists t complain loud and long about the i present instrument.
