N tw York, August 28. The flood in Augusta, Georgia followed upon the bursting of a canal, which inundated the city to a depth of from 6 to 12 feet, has rendered 20,000 people homeless. Many of the inhabitants of the town are sleeping under trees in the suburbs.

; New York, August 29. ~ Twentyrbodies have been recovered in connection with the floods at Augusta. The captain of a steamer states he saw 25 floating in the river, mostly negroes. The damage is estimated at half a million sterling. The floods are subsiding.
