ODDS and ENDS

Court sitting on Tuesday. Cheap railway excursions. Morrinsville stock sale on 7th August. Britain v. New Zealand at Auckland to-day. Hamilton horse fair on August 18th and 19th.

Next Friday is the last day of the shooting season. Our drapers are cutting things very fine just now. Te Aroha is blessed -with a first-class Fire Brigade at present. Piako County Council talk of engaging a permanent engineer. Many think the new tea kiosk will be more ornamental .than useful.

Auction sales will be found duly advertised elsewhere in this issue.

Crs Hubbard and Spence have secured a veritable gold miqe for the Borough of Te Aroha. The ground is pegged. The Borough Council have started a sinking fund in connection with the electric light plant. This is as it should be. _ f Te Aroha and Waihou Hockey Clubs play a return match in the Bridge Domain next Wednesday. Good game expected.

The Morrinsville Town Board are doing good work. Some real live men at the head of affairs.

Te Arohaites can scarcely credit that they are to have a new railway station. It is high time. The Basket Social and Dance at Aratiatia last night was well attended, and passed off satisfactorily. Our old friend, White, has laid the axe to the roots of those trees opposite his front gate. We understand that Mr Mackie has seemed the contract for building the new Convent at Te Aroha. Work is to begin shortly. We understand that Mr J. A. Young one of the aspirants for Parliamentary honours at the November elections, is to give an address at Te Aroha at an early date.
