Sale at Hikutaia.
A most successful sale was conducted at Hikutaia on Monday by Mr T. A. Dunlop on behalf of Messrs Read, Gillespie and Co., when the freehold properties, lire stock, etc., of Mr Chas. Alley were offered for sale. Neither of the properties were sold, however, the 'prices not reaching the upsets. What is known as Richards’ farm was offered and the highest bid was £lO per acre, which was declined. Peel’s farm was also submitted and js9 offered, but this price did not reach ■■■• v the upset. The live stock, etc., sold well, and the bidding was most .. spirited at times* Dairy cows (milking) from £5 to £6 17s 6d, springers £3 ,10s .to '£6 I2s 6d, two-year-old heifers £1 12a 6d to £2 15s, two-year-old steers £2 5s to £3 10s, harness horses £4 to £2B for the . . besty : hacks £3 to £6 ss, Maori . , weads , 10s to 18s. Pigs: Porkers 18s to £1 12s, baconers £2 to £3 ss, carts, £ll, fowls 2s Id to 2s 6d each, turkeys (gobblers) Bs, turkey hens 4s , 6d. A large number sat down to lunch, which was Corbett’s hotel, and the general iinpresaion was that , the sale was one of the most successful held at Hikutaia.
